“Motherhood is so many things; it is an emotional journey, it is time management, it is loving like you have never loved before, it is passion, it is all encompassing, it’s a new chapter, its a new strength, it is one of the best things out there.”- Megan Sullivan

What makes you a Beyond Mom?

Being a mom is a tough thing! What makes me a beyond mom is I am helping to solve one of the problems so many of us moms face – Time. Through the Local Moms Network our mission is simple: “Giving Moms the Gift of Time”. Our websites provide a curated hyper-local resource for Moms and Caregivers in top suburbs all over the United States. We are giving moms time to spend with their family by sifting through everything local so they don’t have to. We have amazing moms in each town that curate their site for their community.

What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a mom?

Motherhood is so many things; it is an emotional journey, it is time management, it is loving like you have never loved before, it is passion, it is all encompassing, it’s a new chapter, its a new strength, it is one of the best things out there. As I sit and reflect on motherhood, I have learned so much in such a short time. I have learned to be a better: time manager, friend, person and partner. I have learned to put my type-A personality to the side and go with the flow which is something I was never able to do. I am living life to the fullest every day with strength, gratitude and passion. Giving up the person you thought you were to grow to a person that is a mother is the most amazing thing a woman can do.

Do you have a Beyond dream that you are pursing?

I don’t believe in dreams I believe in doing. You can accomplish anything that you have passion for and that is what we are doing with The Local Moms Network. Not only are we “Giving Moms the Gift of Time” we are partnering with moms in their local communities to help them start a website of their own under the umbrella of The Local Moms Network. Through this process we are empowering them to be a leader in their community, giving them a flexible work schedule so they can work when their schedule allows, teaching them valuable tools such as WordPress, social media applications, marketing and team work.

What relationships and activities help you stay connected to yourself?

My relationship with my husband helps me stay connected and in touch with my inner-self. He knows me better than I know myself which helps keep grounded and focused. Activities that help me stay connected and focused are important: working out (feeling fit and healthy), going out with my girlfriends and having a glass of wine to catch up (which is good for your soul) and alone time (nothing is better than spending the afternoon getting a facial, massage and a manicure/pedicure)!

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that you live by?

Just Do It! Yes, cliché but I love living by my gut feeling. It is so important when you get a hunch to follow your intuition and just go. In this life you only get a few great chances to take a risk and succeed. You will never regret what could have been when you didn’t even try.

What causes and topics are you most passionate about right now?

One of my biggest passions is getting fresh organic healthy food in front of all families. Over the past year with The Local Moms Network I have had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing brands that are doing just this. No one sticks out like Shannon Allen, the founder of Grown! They are one of the first and only fast-casual 100% organic food establishments in the United States. Their mission is that food should be delicious, organic and inspiring. It’s not made, it’s not manufactured, it’s grown. I could not agree with them more!

How do you think we can change our culture from one in which a woman is expected to be a “perfect mother” to one in which she is encouraged to discover and explore her evolving self?

I think this culture is changing all the time empowering women to be more and do more! I think being a perfect mother comes in so many shapes and forms. Being a mother is unlike any other challenge a woman will face; nothing happens like it should, things are always changing and patience is key. Once you realize that there is no such thing as a perfect mother you are able to discover what you need to continue to evolve. For me working (and having the complete flexibility to generally work around my families schedule) has been an amazing component of finally figuring out what I love.

Favorite go-to’s for:

Beyond Food (what do you cook & where do you go locally?

One of my favorite passions is cooking; We have an amazing local CSA, Mikes Organics that delivers your weekly organic Vegetables, Fruit, Pantry Items and also has wild caught fish and grass-fed meats. I love taking fresh food and making delicious healthy meals for my family.

One of my favorite things to do to unwind is to make a matcha latte with almond or flax milk and cinnamon (in the summer I pour it over ice), and taking it out to our porch, overlooking the water. A few minutes of salty air and deep breaths helps me regroup and center.

Must Haves! Bulletproof Coffee, Sakara (best meal delivery service) and Thrive Market (easy delivery of your home pantry staples-like a Costco for all your organic pantry, baby and self-care needs!)

Beyond Style

Five years ago I was all about color – the more color the better! Recently I have been into the whites, navy, blacks and greys! Not fun but classic. Some of my favorite easy brands to wear are Hatch (I have been pregnant or nursing for five years! They cover all the bases), Joie because its so easy and lets be honest – I am a mom so I live in athleisure (Lululemon & Outdoor Voices!)!

Beyond Workout

Working out is one of my favorite ways to unwind. You can find me on the tennis courts or at CatWalk fitness. I think the mega-former (l agree method) is one of the best workouts.
