This Beyond Mom gives us the scoop on her busy and dynamic life as she juggles her many hats.
What makes you a Beyond Mom?
I’m a big believer in designing the life you want. For me, it entails wearing a lot of hats! Motherhood is my greatest role of all and my day consists of striking a balance between, author, chef, nutritionist and tv host. My latest venture, Mommy Mingle (I think the name came to me during a 3 AM feeding with my son and I was slightly delirious), was born out of my desire to meet other moms in the neighborhood. We now host weekly mommy & me lunches, MamaFit classes with The FitCo, various music classes and fun happy hours! Multi-tasking has taken on a whole new meaning since becoming a mom. I love the challenges each new project has given me and ultimately I love creating and making it all work!
What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
I’m still in amazement over pregnancy, labor and delivery. Sometimes I just stare at my son thinking, “You came out of me!!” The unconditional love I have for him and the desire to want to be the best for him each and every day is more than I can put into words. My heart and world has grown since becoming a mom, because I want to “do it all” and I want my son to be with me as I’m conquering my dreams! There’s a new sense of calmness to just roll with it. I bring Robert to all my meetings, he’s my good luck charm! If I suddenly have “spit up” running down my back, I just kind of laugh it off. I’ve learned it’s “ok” to not always have it together.
Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
I’ve been so fortunate to work with such incredibly inspiring women on amazing projects. Most recently, once I had my son, I thought, I want to make new mom friends! I launched Mommy Mingle to give other moms an outlet to join weekly events. My husband and I own several restaurants throughout the city, Arte Cafe being located on the UWS has a large private event space and perfect for hosting mommy & me gatherings. After I launched I was overwhelmed by the positive response and began teaming up with other women who run businesses to add more activities to the schedule! Laura Kovall, owner of The FitCo, was my first collaboration to bring mommy & me classes to the UWS Mommas and helping us “fit it in” to our hectic daily schedule. I feel when motivated women get together and brainstorm, the sky’s the limit!
What relationships help you stay connected to yourself?
Definitely my mom. My parents live in San Diego, but we talk on the phone everyday, sometimes more than once! My mom has always kept me grounded and connected to myself. I’m also so thankful for my husband, he’s my rock and I love that we constantly bounce ideas off each other.
Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing?
I’m living it! I’m working on exciting projects and get to spend each day with my baby boy. I’m always creating and expanding my workload and my dream is to continue to grow and explore each and every opportunity that presents itself to me.
What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
I love taking long walks. It clears my head and I come up with some great ideas when I step away for a bit.
How does style influence the way you stay feeling ‘Beyond’? Who is currently your favorite designer?
I’m a self proclaimed Glama Mama, so style is very important to me! In my new book, The Thinly Effect, I talk about “Getting Ready for the Day” which means something different for everyone, but it’s about feeling prepared and your best each day. I’m a big proponent of “getting ready for the day.” I feel my best when I put myself together. Intermix is my go to store, I always find a great dress from a new designer that I love!
