Multi-talented Jamie Kolnick has been working as an actress, teacher and entertainer for the past ten years. After teaching music classes all over New York and Miami, Jamie started “Jam with Jamie and Friends,” a group of children’s musicians who perform for birthday parties and playgroups. Jam with Jamie and Friends is a complete hit with families! She provides interactive jam sessions with all the classic kid favorites and oldies, rock, and top 40 tunes. Jamie shares her next collaboration with female entertainers, a comedic show for adults only. This Beyond Mom has certainly found a way to use her unique gifts as an entrepreneur and entertainer.
What makes you a Beyond Mom?
The feeling I get when I walk out the door with my seven month old Zach and actually have everything I need for him is a success story in my book. Running my business in addition to taking care of my little boy has not always been easy but on the days that I am able to get him to take a nap long enough so I can workout (thank you Shaun T), write some emails, talk to clients, and also make myself breakfast makes me feel like a super hero. There are of course the days that feel like chaos and on those days I have to remind myself that I gave that day everything I had, and that makes me a Beyond Mom (even though I smell like spit up and it looks like Fisher Price threw up in my living room).
What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
My heart has nearly tripled in size for this little dude. Every time he laughs or is discovering a new part of this world, I feel so full. I start to see the world through his new eyes. I also look at everything I have been through in this life so far and it is all put in perspective by having him and starting our family.
Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
In addition to running Jam with Jamie, I write, create, and produce comedic shows for TV and online with three other women. Our most recent collaboration was inspired by “Jam with Jamie” and is called “Kid Friendly*.” Don’t be fooled by the name, it is NOT for kids and is fairly crude. It is a story of three women who want to be rockstars and find themselves performing at children’s birthday parties to make ends meet. It has been incredible working with these women who are very close friends of mine. I believe that our collaboration has been successful because we listen to each other. We are passionate about the work and love what we are creating. This has been a real eye opener for me in other aspects of my professional life. There is absolutely no reason to be doing something you don’t LOVE doing.
What relationships help you stay connected to yourself?
The bond between me, my husband and my baby keeps me grounded and is a daily reminder of who I am. There is no better comfort than when the phones and technology are put away and it’s just us, living in the moment. My husband makes me a better person and reminds me to not forget about me (i.e. Pushing me to get my toosh out of bed to work out even though sleep feels so good, ESPECIALLY in the morning.) Self care is super important and its easy to forget about myself in the chaos of everything so I am very grateful to him for helping me remember me.
Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing? If so, please share…
World peace one song at a time? Ok, ok if that’s too much to ask for, a more tangible dream at the moment is to produce one of my shows on a network. We are currently pitching a couple projects right now, fingers crossed!
What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
I’m a big fan of Beachbody videos. I have done a ton of the programs including Chalean Extreme, T25, Turbo Fire, and P90X. The network that comes with Beachbody and the groups I am in help me stay accountable and continue to help me achieve my fitness and wellness goals.
I also have practiced transcendental meditation for eight years now. I meditate twice a day, morning and night, and that most certainly helps me maintain balance!
How does style influence the way you stay feeling ‘Beyond’? Who is currently your favorite designer?
Oh man, so many ways! Especially on the days that I feel like complete s&*t. That’s when I need to dress up, put on my favorite earrings, a cool bag, and work it all the way to Duane Reade and Starbucks.
I love everything Vince!
Favorite Spots that Embody The Beyond Mom:
Current favorite cocktail is a “Southside Ricky.” The guy that knows how to make it is at Raines Law Room (find a guy who knows a guy that can get you in). It’s basically a cucumber mojito with gin instead of vodka.
