1. What makes you a Beyond Mom?
I’ve always been constantly striving to learn something new whether in my profession, for self-growth and especially now being a mom. I received my Master’s Degree from NYU, worked at top consulting firms and healthcare systems. While working the crazy hours and climbing the corporate ladder, I found yoga, which changed my life. I got into a regular practice, started meditating and sought to find a deeper meaning in my life and my life’s purpose. When I got pregnant with my first child, Gracie, my world shifted and with that my perspective on what I truly value. I got the courage to follow my passion, align with what I believe in and GO FOR IT. I started EMBODY Wellness Company with Stephanie Rapp and haven’t looked back since. Now, I’m a Beyond Mom, because I’m living what I value by helping people change their lives while being able to be with my kids, seeing all their firsts, the ups and the downs and the joys of everyday life. I also stay true to what grounds and inspires me through my yoga, mediation, writing, cooking with my kids, being in nature, my fabulous group of friends, fellow moms and entrepreneurs and our company!
2. What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
Since becoming a mom, my capacity to love, need for more patience and self-awareness expanded. It was a journey getting pregnant and when it happened, I was broken open. Yes, I was one of those women who loved being pregnant and I savored it! I never knew this type of love was possible for another human being. I can viscerally still feel what it felt like when I first saw my baby girl. Then, with my son Mason, my heart just keeps on expanding. It’s truly remarkable. I’m not saying it’s all rosy at all though. Which leads me to patience. I’ve never had to cultivate this more than being a mom of two toddlers. I’m always striving for more grace in my words and actions when dealing with my kids. My self-awareness has also expanded from being a mom. My kids are my teachers and show me what I need to learn on a daily basis. I’ve also needed to be even more diligent to carve out time for myself. Everyone benefits from a mom who makes time for herself, even if you only have 5 minutes! It makes me more present.
3. Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
Collaborating with my business partner and friend, Stephanie Rapp, on our company EMBODY Wellness Company! I first met Stephanie at our school’s event and was drawn to her drive and background. We both mentored each other as health coaches, but our meetings always went to brainstorming business ideas and dreams. I feel inspired when co-creating ideas with her and learning from her experiences. I respect Stephanie deeply and am inspired by her spirit, sensibility, creativity and work ethic. We compliment each other extremely well and have an aligned vision for EMBODY. We both love to collaborate with other successful entrepreneurs and women in the wellness world and are always seeking out ways to find value for our clients through our collaborations.
4. What relationships help you stay connected to yourself?
My husband. He is my best friend and grounds me. My best friends and mom friends mean the world to me and make me a better person and mom. My family, I come from a family of 5 and staying close to them is important to me. Connecting to myself through my yoga, mediation practice and alone time to shut down and let grace in has been a lifesaver.
5. Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing? If so, please share…
Growing EMBODY Wellness Company into a brand that changes more people’s lives! It is our passion to inspire people to EMBODY wellness. We are working with amazing partners now and strategizing on corporate offerings, online programs and beyond. We are excited about the future and grateful.
6. What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
Making smoothies and healthy creations in my Vitamix. I love picking out my veggies for the week at local farmers markets and organic markets. I’ve been on a green smoothie kick for the last year, drinking at least one a day. It gives me energy and balances me. It’s a family affair, as my little ones also enjoy them! I’m by no means a chef, but I love coming up with colorful dishes that nourish my family.
Meditation, even a few minutes, grounds me daily. I also have a daily yoga practice and believe in high quality essential oils. doTerra is my go to brand and I always start my morning with an elevating and grounding/calming blend. Also, its part of my bedtime ritual for myself and my kids.
7. How does style influence the way you stay feeling ‘Beyond’? Who is currently your favorite designer?
Being put together is important but so is comfort. I love dark jeans. Most of the time you’ll spot me in my yoga clothes though. They are so versatile! I’m a big believer in wearing what makes you feel confident. I love No. 6 boots. They are my go-to mom gear. They look fashionable, yet I can still chase the kids.
Favorite NYC Spots that Embody The Beyond Mom:
Beyond Cocktails and/or Food:
Cocktails, I love dirty martinis. I’m an olive girl. Food: avocados, green smoothies, kale, salmon, nuts/seeds and olive oil are mainstays in my diet.
Yoga, Pure Barre and online workouts/dvd’s: Tracy Anderson, Physique 57 and Body By Simone are my go-to workouts. I’ve done the Beachbody series. Many days I only have 30 minutes to squeeze in a workout so I get creative and inspired via my online workouts.
