What makes you a Beyond Mom?
My drive, my commitment and my strength. My passion for what I do and how I manage my time so that I can be an involved mom of three boys, contribute to my community and also run a successful nutrition practice that I built from the ground up.
What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
My heart, my patience, my pride and my ability to multitask at an abnormal rate. My organizational skills have also grown to a level I never knew was possible.
Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
I collaborate with so many amazing women on a regular basis. There is nothing I like more than talking, learning and bouncing ideas off of other women who also own small businesses. There is an instant camaraderie as well as the desire to collaborate rather than compete.
What relationships help you stay connected to yourself?
My mom and my sister are my rocks. They remind me of who I really am even when I can’t remember. They are there when I am at my best and at my worst and somehow they are there even when we can’t find time to talk. They believe in me, encourage me, and fully “get me” even though we are so different.
Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing?
Creating and growing my business, Real Nutrition is my “Beyond” dream! At 29 I went back to school to become a Dietitian. I had a prosperous career in Legal Recruiting yet I couldn’t quite get over the fact that I wasn’t working in the field of nutrition. I quit my job and went back to school to get a second bachelors, a masters and to complete my Dietetic internship and receive my licensure. I never thought I would go back to school, but I did and I couldn’t be happier! That was the start of my dream and I never looked back. Even with 3 kids, I have built my company and continue to grow it and pursue my passion. My dream now is to continue to expand Real Nutrition, taking it to the next level!
What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
Moving, sweating and strength training usually at 5 AM. Ever since I had kids finding “me time” is really hard. I cherish early mornings when my kids and the city are asleep. I get my workout in or even a quick morning walk to get coffee at the local deli before most of the world is up and out. I consider this borrowed time because it isn’t taking away from my work or my kids, it is the only time where I can truly be about me without any strings attached. This is my favorite time of day and without it I’m not the same.
How does style influence the way you stay feeling ‘Beyond’? Who is currently your favorite designer?
Just being dressed makes me feel motivated, confident and focused. I like to look professional at work and stylish yet causal on the playground. You will always find me in shoes I can walk in because moving and running and walking instead of cabbing is how I roll. And if I am not wearing “walkable” shoes then you can bet I’ve got a pair of sneakers in my bag. I do tell my clients that being too comfortable can get you in trouble with weight gain – so putting on jeans instead of leggings on most days will keep you eating clean! Currently I love Isabel Marant, Warm, Giada Forte and Chloe.
Favorite Local Spots that Embody The Beyond Mom:
Beyond Cocktails and/or Food:
My go to cocktail is either Titos Vodka on the rocks with a few dashes of hot sauce and an olive OR tequilla with lots and lots of fresh squeezed lime juice (skinny margarita anyone?)
I’m all about weight training. Lift heavy to stay light but strong. I also love a good long walk over the Brooklyn Bridge or Pilates to lengthen my muscles and open my shoulders.
Always a Barney’s fan but Warm is my fav NYC spot!
