1. What makes you a Beyond Mom?
Being Hermione’s mom is the most rewarding, incredible and fulfilling thing I have ever done in my life. However, in order to be the best mom possible to her I still spend time tending to myself and my dreams. The time I take to write my blogs, create recipes for myself and other, and help people achieve their wellness goals makes me able to be a better, more grounded, more well rounded mom to Hermione.
2. What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
My heart has grown a million times since becoming a mom. I didn’t know I could love so deeply or profoundly until Hermione was born. I would literally do anything for this little girl. My patience has also grown infinitely. I have learned to be calm and patient in all sorts of trying situations. If I am not relaxed and open there is no way she can be. I have also learned to be selfless. There are many, many times when I have to put her needs far above my own and I am more than happy to do that.
3. Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
My collaboration with (new mom) Rachel Drori on Daily Harvest is one I am most proud of. Rachel came to me just about a year ago with her idea for frozen, ready to blend organic smoothie packs and asked if I would help create the recipes. I was thrilled at the idea and jumped in head first. The timing could not have been worse as I had a baby and was undergoing apartment renovations but Rachel was amazing to collaborate with and so supportive of my schedule and limited flexibility. Together we perfected what are now the Daily Harvest blends and I could not be more proud of them. It has been a joy to watch the company grow and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
4. What relationships help you stay connected to yourself?
My relationship to my husband helps me stay true to me. We were friends and then business partners long before we were spouses and parents. He knows me better than anyone and can help me remember who I am beyond the role of “mom.”
5. Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing? If so, please share…
I recently launched a blog for my daughter called Hermione’s World. On it I cover toddler fashion, food, NYC adventures and more. I would love to somehow combine my healthy lifestyle site and Hermione’s blog into a wellness focused mommy and me brand of sorts. I am not sure specifically how that will manifest it self but I have a few ideas…
6. What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
I could not live without my daily exercise. I need to start my day with a good hard sweat or I just don’t feel like myself. I usually go to a SoulCycle class or a yoga class but if I don’t have time for that or don’t have someone to watch Hermione I at least try to do some yoga at home. If I don’t move my body each and every day I don’t feel like myself.
7. How does style influence the way you stay feeling ‘Beyond’? Who is currently your favorite designer?
My style has evolved quite a bit since becoming a mom. I love chic, easy basics in neutral colors that go together easily. I don’t have much time to put outfits together so I need most of my closet to “play nicely” together. My current favorite designers are Vince, Rag and Bone, and Helmut Lang. I also love LoveShackFancy dresses, skirts and playsuits for beach vacations and summertime.
Favorite NYC Spots that Embody The Beyond Mom:
I love Soho House and have been a member for years. It is great for cocktails with my girlfriends, dinner with my husband, or brunch and a kid friendly movie with my daughter on the weekends.
Beyond Cocktails and/or Food:
I am a die hard white wine drinker. Even in the coldest winter months I love a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. I always order fancy cocktails but never am able to take more than one or two sips-they are always too sweet for me. My ideal cocktail is a super spicy margarita made with zero sweetener of any kind-just good tequila, lime juice, chilies and salt. No one makes them as good as my husband does!
SoulCycle with my Soul guru and friend Laurie Cole. I am a complete addict. I go 5-6 times a week and it is truly my happy place. In that dark room I can rock out, dance and lose myself for 45 blissful minutes. I rode my entire pregnancy and was even signed up for class the day I gave birth. My husband rides also and we can’t wait to get our daughter on a bike when she is old enough.
I do most of my shopping online these days. I just prefer to try clothes on in the comfort of my own home. My go to’s are Intermix, Helmut Lang, Vince and and Rag and Bone. All have great everyday mom friendly styles that are great for the playground or a dinner with girlfriends.
My daughter. Watching her take such joy in discovering the world around her is truly inspirational. It’s hard to take anything for granted when you spend most of your time around a beautiful bundle of love who thinks the world is just the coolest place.
