1. What makes you a Beyond Mom?
I am defined by a combination of things. First and foremost, I’m defined by motherhood. My children are the most important thing I’ve done with my life. BUT— how I choose to incorporate that definition of myself is by being a happy, confident person who can model positive behavior for my kids. For me, that means success in business with a dose of making the world a more just place.
2. What are the parts of you that have grown and expanded since becoming a Mom?
I was always an efficient person, but that’s gone through the roof since having kids. I just don’t have time to waste. This gets me into trouble sometimes, for example if I’m writing emails to friends and get down to business right away. Also, my level of empathy has grown. Though most people who know me through work wouldn’t believe it, I cry all the time watching TV or movies—especially when the subject matter is kid-related. It’s hard for me to hear anyone’s story without imagining myself in their shoes.
3. Can you share a collaboration/success story with another woman; what helped the collaboration become successful?
Because of the nature of my business, I am constantly collaborating with other women. Most recently when I wanted to make a video about the physical experiences of postpartum, I sought out female comedy writers so that we could tell a story with a uniquely feminist perspective.
4. Do you have a ‘Beyond’ dream that you are pursuing? If so, please share…
I want to normalize the conversations we have about women’s health, both emotional and physical. That’s the driving force behind HelloFlo. I want to live in a world where we can all be comfortable in our skins and happy with who we are.
5. What wellness activity can you not live without? What is one thing you do daily that balances you?
I walk. If it means taking the long way to the subway because that’s all the time I have, I do it. There is nothing more satisfying to my soul than walking while listening to an audio book or podcast.
