I’ve been looking at the website and one of my classes for Spring has an eTextbook and I’ve been considering it but I’m just not sure what the benefit is.
Do I buy the eTextbook in addition to my regular textbook or is it in place of the regular textbook? Does it depend on the class? Unless all my books come as eTextbooks I’m not really going to be able to ditch the backpack and hang out exclusively on my laptop for learning, am I?
Then again I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to get the nook. I’m such a lover of paper and pages and the smell of published materials and libraries that I’m just not sure if eTextbooks are enough of a return that make it worth giving up the book.
Honestly if you’re using the nookcolor (or is it Nook Color?) I’d love to know if you felt it was worth giving up the paper and the tactile experience for the convenience of having all those books in one place.

Howdy! So I don’t have a Nook Color per-say but I do have an iPad that I use for reading. So beyond the differences between the iPad and the Nook I wanted to say that I love having hundreds of books in one place.
I have bought books before and I have three boys – one of which is still in the “ripping paper” stage. I carry it with me everywhere I go so if I have a moment or two – or three in bumper to bumper traffic I’ll get it out and read.
I do have text books on it as well and since the actual text book was about three inches thick it is wonderful to not have that weight. I’m not sure about the Nook but I’m almost 100% sure it can zoom and change text sizes so when you need to focus on a explanation or a photo and it’s caption it’s great to zoom in and have large text.
I do have to say though that there are a few classic books that I bought via the iPad that I also went on Amazon and bought the print version. They are more ‘national geographic’ style books that I want my kids to be able to turn the pages when they are able. But as for a replacement for text books – I say Nook away!
Hope this helps!
Awesome! Thanks so much that is WAY helpful! And hey…CONGRATS on having the iPad you swanky lady with the cool gadgets you!
I don’t have the Nook Color, (I didn’t have enough cash, okay???) But I do have the original Nook, and I wouldn’t trade it for the tallest bookcase in the world. Love it. I can totally see using it for school! The original nook does have the capability of changing the text size. I also love the fact that many books have the “Lend Me” option available so if a friend has a book you want to read on their Nook, and it is “lendable” then you get to read it. For free. (My favorite four letter “F” word.) I also love that my Nook allows me to get on the internet. Awesome. Because I don’t know what on earth I would do if I couldn’t access Facebook in the middle of an interesting book. My DH loves it because it came preloaded with Chess and Sudoku. He doesn’t read much.
Hope this helps!
I’ve tried this and honestly didn’t like it. I much prefer a real book in front of me…it’s much easier to see everything (in my opinion). I also find it’s much easier on my eyes. However, I do think I’m in the minority with this opinion
