Crappy Internet Marketing Comment Spam

Does anyone know what dumb ass Internet marketer is teaching people to run around posting this jizz in people’s comments?

Thanks to the article, Now there is more reason to comment than ever before! Everyone should participate. I am incorporating what your wrote to our project!

The first time I got it I wasn’t sure if it was spam or someone trying to cover their ass before deciding to rip off half my blog posts for some shady “project” they had in the works.

The FOURTH time, well, that was about all I could muster.

The thing is, the whois for the first two came from a guy with a gmail address (and I have his phone number around here somewhere) The last one came from some other lame-ass blog that was still rocking the default WordPress “About” page. With text and everything.

So if anyone knows the evil mastermind who told people to put this stupid spam comment in my blog, complete with instant worry about copyright infringement (I mean, come ON, anyone who reads Mamalogues knows to be worried about copyright, yanno?) with that using junk in a project thing.

This Internet marketer sucks, people. If you are in a class where they tell you to leave dumb comments on blogs for traffic – RUN AWAY.

If you think this is the most genius thing ever to generate oodles of great traffic for your product or service, well, you deserve to be broke and homeless and boiling your urine for drinking water.

I’d share how awful the pages are that these comments are linking to, but that would be, you know, traffic generating…and when someone believes any traffic is good traffic, my only retaliation is to give them no traffic.

Sigh.

What do you all do about comment spam? Is there a trick I’m missing? Since all my comments are moderated it doesn’t slip through onto my blog

    Blame Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.

They pay real people a pittance to do these things because machines and software no longer smart enough to get around the more sophisticated anti-spam methods.

It won’t make the spam go away, but know that the guy who posted it probably literally got only a penny to annoy you. Imagine how many people he has to annoy an hour to make it worthwhile. It’s not much, but it makes me feel better :-)

I use the Akismet plugin for Wordpress. It seems to catch just about everything, so very, very little actually gets through onto my blog. What does, I delete almost immediately, so it’s never a big deal.

That way, I don’t have to futz with comment moderation, etc.

@Dy – Oh man. Someone gets paid to copy and paste that message? Well if it’s feeding their family, even if it’s just a pittance, then I’ll stop complaining. Not everyone can have amazing work from home gigs like us, I guess.

@TC – I use Akismet as well. That’s why I noticed these, they keep getting through even though I marked the first few as spam.

I will suck it up and appreciate what I have and let the comments be a reminder that I am lucky and live better than the royalty of other countries.

    Even without central air *grin*

Got something to say?
