Are you a who?

Uh oh.

It looks like Wikipedia has put the kabash on letting anyone and everyone post an entry on anyone and everyone!

Over at Seth’s Blog, he tells of a friend who went to put her bio into Wikipedia and was told *not notable enough*

That had to sting!

I’ve been recommending for the past year that everyone have someone put them into Wikipedia.

One question I’m left with is…did it reject her entry because she tried to enter herself? I’ve heard tell that you cannot enter your own Wikipedia entry, you have to find some other kind soul to enter your information for you. But the logic of that is shaky, at best. How would Wikipedia know if you were entering your own bio? I mean, seriously, they could only know if you were at your computer using your ip. You could just as easily go to the library and enter it there.

I’m going to have to research this a little, but until that time, there’s www.squidwho.com – the who’s who for the rest of us amazing, but not necessarily notable (in Wikipedia’s eyes) people!

Quick and Dirty Online Marketing

I. Find Local Groups
A. People gather NOT for the WHAT but for the WHY (the why makes a good niche)
1. Meetup.com
2. Squidoo.com
3. LinkedIn.com
4. Ojeez.com (maybe…still not sure on this one)
5. MySpace.com
6. Ryze.com
7. Squidwho.com
8. If there are any Yahoo! Groups or Google Groups or other email lists regarding the Whys

II. Get out there! (on the internet)
A. You do have a blog, don’t you…
1. typepad.com
2. wordpress.com
3. wordpress.org (best for SEO)
4. REMEMBER: Write about what your audience wants to hear…not what you want to tell them…
B. Consider recording your own podcast. There are ways to do this for free and get it on iTunes for free. (Yes, I know the ways)
1. See what’s out there already
2. Do it better.

III. Get out there verbally! Be a radio guest on podcasts or radio shows!
A. Podcasts that focus on
1. Your local metro area
2. Product Specifics
3. Any of the “Whys”
4. Anyone else you can think of that might be interested in what you have to say!

B. Give a “special” to get them to have you and then be funny and charming so they’ll have you back
1. Be yourself
C. Have a teleclass or teleseminar
1. Start with online PR and change your resource box in articles and on forums to reflect new teleseminar.
2. Put it out there on lists like Ask Liz Ryan (28,000 members worldwide) in your signature after having answered a normal question.
3. Be subtle, but obvious.
4. RECORD THE TELECLASS AND WE USE IT AS A PODCAST AND PUT IT ANYWHERE YOU CAN SUBMIT IT.

IV. Use Other People’s Resources
A. Post comments in blogs of well known or well traffic-ed sites
1. Use alexa.com to determine popularity as well as other sources.
2. Make comments good, always link back to your site.
B. Forums
1. Do searches on google for the “whys” and find first forum in Google (top ranked) see how many members they have and post!
2. When you change one signature line, they all change, so even old posts will be updated with new information when you need it to be.

Next Steps:
Compile list of “Whys” for more effective searching.
Research actual URLs, domains, blogs, and Wikipedia terms that could be enhanced by your participation

I am not a vending machine.

Talking to a colleague of mine today, I found that portions of her regular work were being taken from her and given instead to a lower priced, less skilled independent contractor.

Of course when this less skilled independent contractor needed help, she called my colleague at 9:15pm to ask “just a quick question” – which only takes ten minutes to answer – but does she bill for it?

Guess who’s officially Qualified? It’s ME!

Google AdWords Qualified Individual Logo I don’t know if I could possibly be more excited about this! I’ve been running Google AdWords campaigns successfully for almost a year.

But one of the requirements to get the logo is budget spend. I have small clients with small budgets…so even though I passed the test and signed all the forms…it wasn’t until today that lo and behold I crossed the magical finish line by hitting the required advertising spend.

So thank you to my clients, Google, and Elvis…because baby…I now have a logo.

(Of course, now that I have it I’m like, what was the big deal? But you know, someone is going to see this and be all kinds of ooh-ing and aaah-ing because there’s a logo on the page there wasn’t before.)

It’s like something not being real until it’s on the TeeVee. Maybe I wasn’t really a professional AdWords campaign runner without the slick logo…

Elija Wood can’t get a better job these days…

From The Hobbit to now guest starring in the most disturbing new show for the toddler jet-set you could imagine, Yo Gabba Gabba!

http://www.youtube.com/v/_VV229DbXic <– you need to see Elija doing the PuppetMaster!

This show is reminiscent of the old 70’s style Sesame Street episodes. It has good messages, lots of repetition, and some old Activision graphics they stole from Excitabike (ok, they didn’t really steal them, it just looks that way).My kids (one and a half and two and a half year old girls) sat ENRAPTURED and watched this completely silent the entire time.

I love you My Gabba Gabba!

I will happily be your secret lover as long as you can promise me you’ll keep my kids quiet for a half hour a day while learning about brushing their teeth and eating vegtables so they, too, can have a “party in their tummy” – oh yes…this may be children’s television Nirvana.

Twitter to AIM

I love the idea of Twitter.

Unfortunately, since I do work during the day, I don’t like having a bunch of extraneous windows open in my browser bar. This means keeping it lean, and Twitter has always been relegated to a “whenever I happen to think of it” activity.

But now…now I can Twitter with ease and not have to worry about my browser bar!

If you’d like to get your updates, as well as post to twitter it’s a pretty easy process.

Step 1:
aim twitter click here

From there you’ll be brought to the screen where you choose to enter your mobile number or your AIM or gTalk screen name. You can also see that you can turn notifications off…that can come in handy if you haven’t yet switched off your sounds through your IM program *grin* Mine have been off for as long as I can remember, and I don’t mind the flashing box, so I leave them on.

Everything is Peachy!

,,,

While I didn’t win first prize, losing by three votes (thank you to the seven people so far who have emailed or Skyped me to say they’re sorry they were too late!) I did win something.

You see, the person that won has already been a member of Mom Masterminds for five months. Kelly (who runs MM) promised the prize would be a full year…so she had to give the extra five months away to fulfill her prize promise.

Thanks to everyone that voted, I now have a partially free membership! How cool is that?

Thank you, thank you, thank you…and if you’re ever involved in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to let me know you need a vote!
